Who is Quality Coloured Powder?
Their introduction to coloured powder was when they participated in a Colour Run with their 2 young boys. Taran is a primary school teacher and envisioned how exciting it would be for his students to have a colour run at their school. In October 2015 Taran’s school announced they would hold a Colour Trek for local schools in Sydney’s North West to raise money for the Daniel Morcombe Foundation on the “Day for Daniel”.
The problem was no one was selling colour powder in Australia. When hope was almost lost, he turned to YouTube and learnt how to make the powder himself. With LOTS and LOTS of cornflour and food dye purchased from the supermarket, drying the dye mixture in aluminium tins in the sun and blending in a home blender, he was determined not to let anyone down, he did not give up and Taran made over 100kg of colour powder!
The Day for Daniel colour run was a HUGE success, quickly other schools and organisations heard about the colour powder and Taran started making vast quantities of colour powder on the weekend in the backyard at home – what a mess! With more and more schools wanting colour powder Taran could barely keep up with demand, he got a loan from his father in law and imported 3 tons of colour powder from India. Coupled with Taran’s invaluable advice to other teachers on how to hold a school colour run, the business was born!
Soon people in New Zealand heard about the school colour run craze sweeping Australia and wanted colour powder, Quality Coloured Powder was freighting small orders to New Zealand. Again they took a big gamble and imported a large amount of colour powder direct to Auckland in 2018 and it’s been going gang-busters ever since!
