Fair Isn’t Easy or Cheap – But We Believe It’s Worth It (Despite the Hard Work)
Fair Isn’t Easy or Cheap – But We Believe It’s Worth It
Ever since someone decided that the best way to run the world was by exploiting and economically dominating those less fortunate than ourselves, companies have been told they need to “inspect their supply chains.”
Sounds simple, right?
If you think colour powder suppliers in Australia can easily trace their ingredients back through every single link, you’d be wrong. Many overseas manufacturers will tell you exactly what you want to hear, convincing guarantees, plenty of green buzzwords, and almost no actual transparency. You want to believe it, but deep down, you know it’s a con.
The truth is confronting. According to the International Labour Organization, over 28 million people worldwide are trapped in forced labour, and around 8 million of them are in India, working across industries from textiles to materials processing — the same types of supply chains that feed cheap, mass‑produced colour powder.
Modern slavery doesn’t always look like chains and fences; it’s often low pay, unsafe conditions, and no choice but to keep showing up.
And that’s the backdrop for most “affordable fun.”
Choosing a Better Way
After failing to get transparency on the colour powder we imported from India, we decided in 2021 to align our business with our personal values. We realised that enabling people to have fun with colour powder should not come at the expense of unseen people or the planet we leave for future generations.
That’s why we now make our coloured powder where we live, in Coolum Beach, Queensland. Sourcing Australian materials and local labour. We are the people who put the hard work into making it. We know how it’s made, and we can stand proudly behind every handful of colour that goes into the air.
We also do what we can to care for the planet, using sustainable packaging and avoiding single‑use plastics wherever possible. (Please forget about using plastic squeezy bottles, they’re unnecessary!)
It costs us a lot more in time and effort to do things this way, but that cost is what integrity looks like — and we accept that.
The Real Colour of Joy
For our small business, colour powder isn’t just about temporary bright bursts of fun. It’s about the all‑important connection — laughing, celebrating, and creating memories that last long after the colour fades.
Because fair isn’t easy. Or cheap.
But it’s always, always worth it. 🌈💛
